Avalon, New Jersey is widely regarding as one of the best beach communities along the entire East Coast of the United States. Avalon was purchased in 1722 from its British owner for $380, and was originally called “Leaming’s Island” and later, Seven Mile Beach. Avalon projects seaward almost a mile further than the rest of the local coastline, giving us the slogan that lives forever: “Avalon—Cooler By a Mile”.
Avalon consists of 2,200 full time residents, and boasts of a summer population of 45,000. Avalon’s beaches were named as among the Top Ten in the entire state for 2008-09. Additionally, Avalon was the only New Jersey community to be designated as one of the “Top 50 Places to Live and Play in the United States” by National Geographic Adventure magazine. Avalon has won countless regional and nationwide awards and accolades for its beach and dune management system.
